Winter Emergency Services

A special weather statement regarding your home

Before temps drop, please find your emergency shutoff valve for your home’s water supply to minimize damage.  As temps rise, you may have burst pipes that result in water spraying or running.  If that happens, shut of the water supply until you get a plumber on site.  Call us at 803-770-4922.

Be sure to advise on removing hoses from hose bibs and wrapping the fixture itself to protect.  Tankless water heaters installed outside may freeze and you can try to thaw with a hair dryer or other heat source.  As temps rise above freezing, listen for spraying or running water to identify leaks.

Columbia SC – Anticipated Freeze Advisory

Valued customers,

We are expecting unusually cold temperatures for a prolonged period in the next few days.  Our recommendations to prepare are:

  1. Locate your home’s main water shutoff valve and make sure that area is accessible to you in the event of a freeze/thaw situation.  If your pipes freeze and begin to thaw and spray water resulting in damage to your home, shut the water off using this main shut-off valve to minimize further damage.
  2. Disconnect outside water hoses from hose bibs and insulate your hose bib by wrapping in cloth such as old t-shirts or materials designed for insulating hose bibs – sold at your hardware stores.
  3. Close vents under your home if possible.

If temperatures are below freezing and you lose water, your pipes are likely frozen.  You will have to wait until temperatures are above freezing to regain water to your home.  At that time, you should inspect your home and listen carefully to any spraying/running water and visually inspect for leaks.  If you have a leak, call us and we will respond to minimize damage to your home and work on a solution for repair.  As always, our technicians will perform a thorough assessment of your plumbing system, present upfront options for repair or replacement, and offer financing options if needed.

If a freeze event occurs as predicted, plumbing service providers will be very busy.  Thank you in advance for your patience as we work to restore water to our customers as quickly as possible.  We are on high alert for this event and will work diligently to serve as many customers as possible with the same exceptional service we are known to provide.

If you have a tankless water heater located on the exterior of your home and you have running water but your water isn’t getting hot, start by using a hair dryer to thaw your water heater.  In most cases, your hot water will be restored without the need for a professional.

We hope that you and your home stay safe and endure this weather with no damage, but we will be here for you when you need us.

Thank you,

Tammy Cagle & the team at Love Plumbing, Air & Electrical
